Nawab is an accent chair defined by the line of its frame. A serpentine crest rises from scrolled arms in solid mahogany, following a single continuous curve down through the arm supports and out into cabriole legs. The frame is exposed throughout — it does not disappear beneath the upholstery but holds it, framing the seat the way a border frames a page. At 102 cm, the back is tall enough to support the shoulders fully, giving the chair an upright, formal posture even at rest.
Within that frame, the back is diamond-tufted by hand in a soft ivory weave. Each button is drawn and tied individually, and the depth of the tufting shifts through the day as light moves across the room — the pattern reads sharply in the morning and softens by evening. The contrast is the point: a warm, deeply polished mahogany against a pale, quiet cloth, neither competing with the other.
Nawab draws on the Anglo-Indian bergère — a European form rebuilt in Indian hardwood by Indian hands, and better for the translation. It is a chair for a corner rather than a crowd: beside a window, at the foot of a bed, in a reading nook where one chair is enough. The seat sits at 43 cm over a generous cushion, low and relaxed against the formality of the back. And because the frame is solid mahogany rather than a hidden softwood skeleton, the upholstery can be replaced a generation from now on a frame that will still be square.
