Coil is a chair defined by the craftsmanship of the human hand. Its barrel-shaped back and seat are meticulously woven from natural rope cord in a dense, continuous pattern that envelops every surface above the teak legs. The texture is visible from every angle, bringing warmth, depth, and authenticity to the design.
Created using techniques rooted in traditional South Indian rope furniture making, each strand is carefully wrapped and knotted to form a seat that is both supportive and visually striking. The natural colour of the undyed fibre highlights the honesty of the material, while the circular backrest curves around the sitter in a generous arc, creating a balance between openness and enclosure.
Beneath the woven form, solid teak legs provide strength and stability through a simple, understated structure. A horizontal stretcher connects the legs at the base, reinforcing the frame while adding visual grounding to the design. Equally suited to covered verandahs, outdoor terraces, and thoughtfully curated interiors, Coil is a chair designed to age gracefully.
